Capabilities

What we manage

From bare board assembly to complete box builds. We manage production end to end, with full traceability across whichever facility is doing the build.

PCB Assembly Management

SMT and through-hole assembly for prototypes through to volume production. We coordinate the build in-house or through partners, with full oversight of fine-pitch components, BGAs, and complex multilayer boards.

Component Sourcing

Global supply chain relationships and approved vendor management. We handle obsolescence, alternates, and long lead-time components on your behalf.

Quality Oversight

AOI, X-ray, and functional inspection regimes co-ordinated across our facility and partner factories. IPC standards compliance and documented quality procedures throughout.

Functional Testing

Custom test fixtures and automated test procedures. In-circuit test, functional test, and burn-in as required.

Box Build Assembly

Complete product assembly including enclosures, wiring, labels, and packaging. Ready-to-ship finished products.

Conformal Coating

Protective coatings for harsh environments. Selective coating, masking, and curing for moisture and contamination protection.

Low to High Volume

From prototype runs of 5 units to production volumes of thousands. Flexible capacity that scales with your needs.

Inventory Management

Consignment stock, kanban systems, and just-in-time delivery. We manage your inventory so you don't have to.

Traceability

Full component and process traceability. Lot tracking, date codes, and serialization for regulated industries.

FAQs

Volume manufacturing questions

Common questions about MOQ, pricing, where we build, quality assurance, and design file ownership.

Is Beta Solutions a contract manufacturer?

We have in-house assembly capability for low-volume PCBAs, like prototypes and pilot runs. For volume production we manage the build through long-standing contract manufacturing partners on your behalf. You get one accountable team in New Zealand running the build, supply chain, quality, and documentation, regardless of where the product is physically made.

How much does a volume manufacturing project cost?

Volume manufacturing is priced differently from a one-off engineering project. Per-unit cost depends on product complexity, BOM cost, and order volume. Up-front NRE for tooling, jigs, and test rigs can require a four or five-figure investment. Ongoing manufacturing costs scale with volume and supplier choice. Every product is different. Get in touch and we'll talk you through what's involved.

What volumes do you manage production for?

We manage everything from small pilot runs through to ongoing volume production. There's no hard minimum and no upper ceiling. The right manufacturing partner can change at different stages of a product life cycle. We match the build approach, in-house or offshore, to where your product is at and what it actually needs.

Where is the product actually built, New Zealand or offshore?

It depends on the product. For prototypes, pilot runs, and lower volumes we build locally so issues can be caught and resolved quickly. For higher volumes, cost-sensitive products, or large mechanical assemblies we work through vetted contract manufacturers either in NZ or offshore. Either way, we manage the transfer, documentation, supplier qualification, and quality oversight. You keep one point of contact in New Zealand.

What quality assurance and testing sits behind production?

Inspection regimes are tailored to the product and its market. Typical builds include automated optical inspection after SMT, X-ray for BGA and bottom-terminated components, in-circuit or functional test, and where required burn-in, conformal coating, and environmental stress screening. We coordinate First Article Inspection, lot and serial traceability, and ongoing quality reporting across whichever facility is doing the build.

How long does it take to get a product into volume production?

Lead time depends on design maturity, certification needs, supply chain risk, and tooling. As a rough guide, moving from a finished, tested design into production takes 2 to 3 months. Component stock availability is often the biggest factor. We'll give you an honest, project-specific timeline after a short discovery conversation. Get in touch.

What happens with design files and IP if we want to move production later?

Under our standard terms, new IP created during a project transfers to you on payment. Specific terms are discussed and defined before the project starts. All design IP, source files, and manufacturing documentation are your property. At handover you receive native schematic and PCB source files, Gerbers, ODB++, BOM with approved manufacturer part numbers and alternates, pick-and-place data, assembly drawings, test procedures, and inspection records. The package is portable. You are never locked into a single factory, or to Beta Solutions.

“Deadlines don't wait. Working to stringent specifications, it took TPE, working with Beta Solutions, just under six months to design and produce a new controller... which includes many new features not seen before in Australasia.”
