After eight years of continuous growth, Beta Solutions Limited recently moved its design team to bigger, brighter, custom refurbished premises in the heart of Palmerston North. The new space reflects our commitment to fostering collaboration and innovation as we continue to grow.
Office Expansion and Heritage Preservation
Following eight years of expansion, Beta Solutions relocated its design operations to a larger, renovated location in central Palmerston North. The 1925 building underwent careful restoration to honour its historical character while incorporating contemporary technological requirements. The space blends "steel beams resting above glass walls, industrial steel trays that light up the apex" with original timber and brick elements.
Design Philosophy and Work Environment
The facility was intentionally designed to support collaborative problem-solving and innovation. The team worked to establish "an environment that enables us to best meet our clients' needs" while maintaining the company's core values. The office balances focused work with recreational activities, featuring dedicated spaces for both concentrated effort and team engagement.
Kitchen and Social Areas
A cafe-style kitchen positioned along the front windows maximises natural light and views of the City Square. A five-meter window seat provides a contemplative workspace, while the kitchen bar serves as an informal collaboration zone. Historical photographs display local heritage connections.
Meeting and Collaboration Spaces
Two glass-walled meeting rooms feature acoustic rating and ceiling-height design, offering privacy without visual isolation. The rooms can operate separately or combine into a larger training area for client presentations and team sessions.
Workstations and Equipment
Engineer workstations are arranged to facilitate discussion and problem-solving, each equipped with essential development tools. Wheeled storage units allow flexible movement between desk areas and the laboratory spaces.
Laboratory Facilities
The lab contains specialised equipment across two distinct areas:
- Electronics section: Anti-static mats, soldering equipment, and diagnostic instrumentation
- Mechanical section: Tools, drills, and 3D printing capabilities
Recreation and Innovation
A dedicated social area houses table tennis, darts, and a putting green. The company recognises that "great ideas or innovative solutions often come to mind" during both structured design processes and competitive recreational activities.
